AudioLab 6000A MKII Integrated Amplifier retains the original’s reputation as an accessible yet outstanding “step-up” amplifier, ideal for budding audiophiles while offering notable improvements in sound and functionality. Aesthetically, it remains consistent with its predecessor, ensuring seamless compatibility with the 6000, 7000, and 9000 series.

Enhanced Power Supply and Transformer

The Audiolab 6000A MKII features an upgraded transformer and power supply design. The transformer secondary windings now deliver higher voltage with reduced impedance, providing superior voltage regulation. This results in Audiolab’s signature sound—engaging clarity, precise dynamics, and excellent rhythmic timing. A robust 200VA toroidal transformer is complemented by 4 x 15000uF reservoir capacitors for the power amplifier’s supply (30000uF per rail), ensuring tight musical control and outstanding dynamic range.

Advanced DAC Technology

Audiolab has enhanced DAC performance with the upgraded ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M chipset, replacing the original 6000A’s ES9018. This high-end DAC supports 32-bit/768kHz PCM and features HyperStream® II architecture and a Time Domain Jitter Eliminator for ultra-low noise and outstanding dynamic range. Borrowing from the 7000A’s DAC design, the MKII also incorporates a new Class A circuit in the post-DAC active filter stage, delivering a more refined listening experience.

Enhanced Connectivity

Connectivity is another highlight, with advanced digital-to-analogue conversion supporting four S/PDIF inputs and a new HDMI ARC input for seamless AV integration—an essential upgrade over the original model. Additionally, the Bluetooth 5.1 aptX HD receiver ensures superior range, speed, and performance for high-quality wireless streaming.

Class AB Amplification – True Audiophile Quality

Unlike many competitors shifting to Class D amplifiers in this price range, the 6000A MKII upholds Audiolab’s audiophile tradition with a Class AB power amplifier. It delivers 50W per channel, with a peak current of 11 amps to handle demanding loads. Its CFB (Complementary Feedback) topology enhances linearity and thermal stability, ensuring idle current remains unaffected by output transistor temperatures.

Signal Purity and Versatile Connectivity

The 6000A MKII’s preamp section follows Audiolab’s minimalist approach to preserve signal integrity. A precision analogue volume control and independent low-noise power supplies allow it to compete with higher-end analogue amplifiers. Connectivity includes analogue RCA inputs, a phono stage with a high-quality low-noise circuit featuring precise RIAA equalization, and a dedicated headphone amplifier with current-feedback circuitry. With a high slew rate and gain bandwidth, it delivers a dynamic, detailed, and immersive listening experience across various headphone types—making it one of the most complete integrated amplifiers available.

Versatile Operation Modes

The 6000A MKII offers multiple operation modes for enhanced flexibility. ‘Integrated’ mode combines the pre and power amp stages, while ‘Pre’ mode transforms it into a dedicated preamplifier. ‘Pre-Power’ mode uniquely separates these stages, allowing the unit to function solely as a power amp—ideal for integration with an AV processor in a home cinema setup. This mode also enables external signal processing by routing the preamp output to an external processor and feeding the processed signal back into the power amp input.

A New Standard in Integrated Amplifiers

Building on the original 6000A’s legacy of outstanding value and high-fidelity sound, the 6000A MKII elevates performance with thoughtful refinements, making it more versatile and future-ready than ever. Audiolab’s dedication to continuous improvement ensures this amplifier remains a top choice for discerning listeners.

Before September 2018, the benchmark for Audiolab was the iconic 8000A. However, the 6000A redefined expectations, becoming the most affordable model in the brand’s 40+ year history. This groundbreaking amplifier earned accolades, including What Hi-Fi? Five-Star status, Hi-Fi News Outstanding Product recognition, and Hi-Fi Choice Editor’s Choice, becoming a favorite among new audiophiles.

Since its inception—beginning as a design project in 2016—Audiolab has rapidly evolved, introducing award-winning digital playback sources and amplifiers. Models such as the 9000CDT, 9000N, 7000CDT, 7000N Play, 9000A, and 7000A highlight the brand’s commitment to pushing sonic boundaries across different price points.
