Unveiled at High End Munich 2025, the Evo 5 lineup blends hi‑fi innovation with real‑world pricing.
Wharfedale has taken the wraps off its Evo 5 speaker series, promising sublime high‑end audio without the accompanying price shock. Building on the multi‑award‑winning Evo 4 range, the new models introduce bigger drivers, smarter damping, and re‑engineered crossovers while staying true to the brand’s value‑driven philosophy.
The Evo 5 family consists of:
Key upgrades include a larger 35 × 70 mm AMT tweeter for airier, more extended highs, and an improved 50 mm fabric‑domed midrange tuned to integrate seamlessly with the new high‑frequency unit.
An exclusive SilentWeave cotton/felt hybrid lines the cabinet behind the AMT tweeter, absorbing reflections that would otherwise smear detail. Meanwhile, a cog‑shaped ResoFrame elastomer ring damps every drive unit, suppressing mechanical resonances for cleaner transients.
The crossover architecture now uses shorter signal paths, and the three‑way models split treble/mid and bass circuits onto separate boards to minimise electromagnetic interaction. Wharfedale’s signature SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port) now vents left, right, and rear, delivering deeper bass with easier room placement.
Each enclosure gains a little extra volume to house the larger drivers and crossover, and is built from layers of different‑density wood to quash cabinet resonance. A hybrid metal/wood plinth anchors the design while neatly incorporating the SLPP ports.
